Yorkton's Salvation Army is still in need of volunteers to man its Christmas kettles around town throughout the month of December.

Each month a male and a female student is selected as the SHHS Saint of the Month. Saint of the Month students are nominated by staff and students of SHHS.

Good Spirit School Division Board of Education hosted its Fifth Annual Staff Appreciation Awards Gala dinner attended by approximately 200 people on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Gallagher Centre. Awards were presented to 92 employees.

The Yorkton Sno-Riders snowmobiling club is entering this season better equipped than ever before. Until now, the club has maintained its 500 km of snowmobile trails in the area with a set of used snow groomers.

Justin Yawney, president of Yorkton Plumbing & Heating has been presented with the 2011 ABEX Award for Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Visiting with Elsie Kryworuchka and son Gerry were Elsie's grandson Clinton Becker from Saskatoon. He took in some moose hunting with his uncle Gerry.

The Yorkton Exhibition Association's annual Santa Claus Parade went down Broadway Avenue on Saturday evening. Windy but warmer than last year, the parade was well-attended by both participants and spectators. More than 40 floats were entered.

On Monday morning, a trickle of water into adjacent businesses led to the discovery that the basement of the former Painted Hand Casino building on 3rd Avenue North had completely filled with water, likely due to a burst pipe.

Yorkton and Canora hospitals could have heliports installed by as soon as this spring, connecting them to the province's upcoming STARS air ambulance network.

Yorkton Council unanimously proclaimed Violence Awareness Week for Dec. 4 to Dec. 10 in the city. The request for the designation was made at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday by the Yorkton Partnership Against Violence Committee.
