Curling season kicks off in Preeceville

Curling season kicked off at the Preeceville Curling Rink with 12 teams registered in the four-on-four curling and 24 registered in the two-on-two curling. The season began November 8.

            Curling season kicked off at the Preeceville Curling Rink with 12 teams registered in the four-on-four curling and 24 registered in the two-on-two curling. The season began November 8.

            "On Monday afternoons we welcome all ages and experiences to come join in the fun of curling," said Tim Olson, representative from the curling club. "We want to encourage anyone who wants to learn the sport to come try it out."

            The first bonspiel for the season will be a two-on-two competition being held on November 18 and 19. It will feature a wing night that is dedicated to all the sponsors. The women’s bonspiel is scheduled for December 1, 2 and 3. The Christmas bonspiel is scheduled for December 27 to 30 and the main open bonspiel is scheduled for January 22 to 29.

            "The school teams, as well as the students for grades 4 to 6 will be utilizing the rink through the year," said Olson.

            Josh Erickson was hired as the rink caretaker.

            A poker night was held at the rink on November 10 with 21 players.

"The players came from Kamsack, Canora and Preeceville area," said Olson.

            Dealers were Sheldon Luciw, Ralph Ager and Tim Olson.

            The top winners were: Larid Gervais of Crystal Lake; Glen Dutchak of Canora; Wayne Strukoff of Kamsack, and Donny Moekerk and Jim German, both of Preeceville.
