The Yorkton RawTec Maulers season has come to an end. The Maulers were eliminated from the Saskatchewan AAA Midget League playoffs, dropping their best-of-five series with Regina three-games-to-one in the opening round.

Five Yorkton Minor Football players and two coaches were recently in San Antonio, Texas, for action with the Saskatchewan Selects teams attending the Sixth Annual International Pigskin Classic.

Because of one Togo family’s dedication to the sport of curling, and their ability to attract a “slough of volunteers,” ice was made, 14 teams signed up and a mixed bonspiel was held at Togo.

The Preeceville Peewee White hockey team has kept its provincial run and playoff hopes alive with important wins. Provincial games are based on the best of two games and total points from both games. Regular playoff games are the best of three games.

Morgan Klimchuk of the Calgary Flames, grandson of Jerry and Joanne Klimchuk of Canora, played his first NHL game on February 19 in Calgary against the Boston Bruins.

There is always a lot of buzz at this time of year, at least if you are a National Hockey League fan. While I am not sure there is the fanaticism surrounding the sport that there was when I was younger, I am back engaged with hockey.

Team Parkland Valley won a total of 15 medals at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford. That medal total includes 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze. The gold medals were split between figure skating and weightlifting.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League winds its regular season to a close over the next week.

The Yorkton Senior Curling Social was held at the Gallagher Center this past week. There were 16 rinks in attendance, 10 local and 6 from out of town.

The Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers have eliminated the Lumsden/Bethune Lions in the opening round of the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League’s AA Midget Division playoffs. The series got under way last Tuesday with Yorkton hosting the Lions.
