Three students of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute are wearing gold medals that they won recently playing on lacrosse teams.

On June 26, Clare Drake was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in the builder’s category. Born in Yorkton, on October 9, 1928, Drake was a fine hockey player in his youth, but made his mark in the hockey community as an extremely effective coach.

It was a busy week for the Yorkton Cardinals in Western Major Baseball League action. The team played a total of five games at the time of print. They went 2-3 in those games, pushing their record to 7-17 for the season.

For some people in the Yorkton area, the Canada Day weekend for the past five years has meant getting dirty - very dirty. The 5th annual Quad Derby took place at the Redneck Rec. Land Mudpark over the long weekend.

The Endeavour Eagles had their annual ball tournament on June 10, with eight teams participating. The tournament included a concession booth with perogies, hamburgers and hotdogs and a beer garden.

The Sturgis Trojans U-16 lacrosse team, helped by several Canora players, won the provincial gold medal in Saskatoon on June 17.

Over the weekend, the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association held its annual Diamonds in the Snow awards banquet in Saskatoon, and the Yorkton Sno Riders Club are proud to announce local members and business received recognition.

Parkland College held its 12th annual Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic at Deer Park on Friday.

The past week saw a series of ups and downs for the Yorkton Cardinals in Western Major Baseball League action. The Cardinals played five games in the past week, and hold a 5-13 record at the time of print. They split those games 3-2.

It was another Sunday of stock car races in Yorkton this past week. The Yellowhead International Speedway was filled with hobby, thunder and street cars, and drivers who were ready to race.
