The Yorkton Cardinals are on the backstretch of their season. Over the past week they’ve played four games, and went 1-4 in those matches. Last Wednesday, they played Regina in Melville.

Shae Peterson of Sturgis was one of three Sturgis lacrosse players who were invited to be part of the Yorkton Fighting Pikes lacrosse team in the lacrosse provincials held in Prince Albert on July 8 and 9.

Candian Wrestling Elite (CWE) is returning to Yorkton in just a few weeks with a brand new tour called Nightmare on Elite Street. The tour will hit Yorkton on August 3, and the event will be held at Yorkdale Central School.

This past Saturday, ten athletes from Yorkton and area participated in the annual Special Olympics Regina bocce Tournament at Douglas Park. It was a great, but hot, day. The Parkland athletes did very well.

It was another action-packed day at Yellowhead International Speedway on Sunday, July 16. Stock cars raced bumper-to-bumper on the track in a number of races. It was a dusty day on the tracks, but there was a water truck present to ensure safety.

After a delay of a couple of weeks due to mechanical difficulties, the Kamsack Swimming Pool was open for the season on July 4.

The Parkland Valley District Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association (SSFA) held its annual golf tournament at the Canora Golf and Country Club on June 28, with 11 competitors from Yorkton, Esterhazy and the Canora area participating.

The 106th Access Communications SK Amateur Men’s Golf Championship is being held at Deer Park Municipal Golf Course in Yorkton this week. The tournament, comprised of 42 golfers, started on Monday and runs until Thursday.

Kody Rock, a 23-year-old pitcher from Canora, has been part of the Yorkton Cardinals team for several seasons. Now, he’s trading in the red and blue Cardinals uniform for navy, gold and white as he takes his baseball career to the next level.

The Gallagher Centre swimming pool has adopted a new process for children 10 years old and younger looking to use the pool.
