The Yorkton E&S Yankees are champions of the South East Senior Baseball League again. The team defeated the Canora Supers in a best-of-five series, sweeping the Supers in three games.

The Sturgis Trojans lacrosse team in the U-16 category brought home the gold medal and provincial title in the provincial championships held in Saskatoon on June 17. The three teams participating included Sturgis, Yorkton and Saskatoon.

William Marvin Anderson doesn’t think much when his truck rolls over. “It happens so fast...you don’t even know it’s going to happen,” he says. “You’re just racing and things happen.” Anderson has rolled over more than the average driver.

The Canora Supers swept their first round best-of-three playoff series against the Roblin Stars with a pair of impressive victories. On July 14 the Supers finished off their playoff series sweep versus the Stars with a convincing 21-6 win.

The two-day slo-pitch tournament at the Preeceville Western Weekend on July 15 and 16 featured nine teams competing for $2,800 in prize money.

It was a string of losses this week for Yorkton’s Western Major Baseball League team, the Yorkton Cardinals. The week started on a bad note with the first game against the Okotoks Dawgs at Jubilee Park on July 18.

After years of playing golf, Tyler Wright claimed his first Amateur Men’s title. Wright, representing the Wascana Country Club, came in first place at the 106th Access Communications Saskatchewan Amateur Men’s Championship at Deer Park.

Canora’s Kody Rock fulfils dream, signs professional baseball contract Kody Rock, son of Darryl and Donna Rock of Canora, has realized the first step in a life-long dream by signing a professional contract as a pitcher with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Yorkton Cardinals are on the backstretch of their season. Over the past week they’ve played four games, and went 1-4 in those matches. Last Wednesday, they played Regina in Melville.

Shae Peterson of Sturgis was one of three Sturgis lacrosse players who were invited to be part of the Yorkton Fighting Pikes lacrosse team in the lacrosse provincials held in Prince Albert on July 8 and 9.
