The 2017 Special Olympics Saskatchewan Summer Games were held in Moose Jaw from June 16-18. The event saw 320 athletes from 18 communities, who competed in eight summer sports.

The Yorkton Terriers Junior Hockey Club held its annual general meeting for the 2016-17 season on Monday night at the Gallagher Centre.

Yorkton Council approved the City’s insurance brokerage services for the next 5.5 years.

A Yorkton man has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison after being convicted of aggravated assault.

Richard Zazelenchuk, resident of the RM of Calder, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017 at his farm residence. He was 68 years of age. Richard was born on June 7, 1949, the third son of Peter and Pauline (nee Achtemichuk) Zazelenchuk.

Joyce Laura Mary (nee Brazeau) Wells passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was 66 years of age.

FLAVEL - James Alan Flavel passed away suddenly on June 18, 2017 at the age of 54 years. James was born on September 21, 1962 in Regina, SK, the son of Alan and the late Helen (nee Macknak) Flavel.

Saskatchewan’s population continues to increase, growing by 3,026 to 1,161,365 people in the first quarter of 2017. Over the past year, Saskatchewan’s population grew by 16,047 people – a growth rate of 1.4 per cent.
