Yorkton This Week

The month of March is gone, but Yorkton celebrated its own version of the March Madness less then a week ago. Each and every March, the United States college basketball teams compete throughout the month for the right to be named basketball's best.

The new executive director of SIGN (The Society for the Involvement of Good Neighbors) says he has already been impressed with the passion of the organization's employees and the scope of its programs in Yorkton.

It's new. It's innovative. It's exciting, too.

Every day we hear news reports about people risking their lives for the right to choose their leaders. Here in Canada, many people are saying "Meh." We shouldn't be so complacent, and we should never take democracy for granted.

Dear Editor: The news from the Sunrise Health Region was announced very carefully using language "services interrupted" to make it seem like we should not be concerned because it's just another rural hospital with their usual problem.

Yorkton Municipal RCMP and the Yorkton GIS unit have arrested and currently have a male in custody in connection with the recent armed robberies and a theft of auto in the Yorkton area in early April.

The Winter Light Committee and Volunteers have been busy taking down the Christmas lights and displays this past weekend. It was a little more difficult this year to find space to store some of the larger displays.
