Yorkton This Week

Sometimes good ideas pop up in a community like ours. Sometimes the ideas are great. The idea to create banners to honour veterans from Yorkton and area is clearly one which falls under the column of truly great ideas.

This month marks the 10-year anniversary of Saskatchewan’s Report Impaired Drivers (RID) program and residents are urged to continue to help make roads safer in the province by reporting suspected impaired drivers to police.

Offenses came to the forefront at the Mel Hegland Uniplex in La Ronge to tonight as the Ice Wolves hosted Yorkton in game three of their playoff series.

The Saskatchewan Rush have acquired Tristan Rai and a 2023 2nd Round Draft Pick from the New England Black Wolves in exchange for Tanner Thomson. Rai was selected in the Fifth Round (70th overall) in the 2019 NLL Entry Draft.

The Yorkton RCMP is seeking the public's assistance to locate items stolen on the evening of March 3rd, 2020 from a vehicle while parked on Milne Bay within Yorkton. Some of the items stolen include an Acer laptop, gift cards and savings bonds.

The Yorkton City Wide Championship Basketball Tournament was held recently. On the boys’ side a familiar side emerged the winner as Yorkdale Central school Royal Boys basketball team defeated Mc Knoll in the final 39-31.

It was the ladies turn to rock at the Yorkton Curling Club. The club hosted its annual Ladies’ Bonspiel last week, an event which attracted a dozen teams playing over four days.

It was announced Monday that City of North Battleford and the Town of Battleford have formed a joint administrative committee in response to the coronavirus situation.

Tourism Yorkton made its annual report to the regular meeting of Yorkton Council. The Yorkton Convention and Visitor Bureau is a non-profit organization founded in 1985 to promote tourism opportunities in the Yorkton area.

A new initiative looks to honour the veterans of Yorkton and area. Monday the Royal Canadian Legion’s Honour Our Veterans committee made a presentation on the project to the regular meeting of Yorkton Council.
