Wanted man arrested after police stand-off, freed, wanted again, arrested again

He appeared in Lloydminster, Sask., court Monday.

LLOYDMINSTER – A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant who was at the centre of a police stand-off in November 2023, and was wanted again after he failed to appear in court in December, is back in custody.

Michael Hill, 25, had appearances in Lloydminster Provincial Court on April 15 and 8 and remains behind bars. The Crown is opposed to his release, again. He is back in court April 29.

Hill faces numerous charges including kidnapping with intent, assault causing bodily harm, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, uttering threats, pointing a firearm at a person, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, and failing to appear in court.

During the police stand-off when Hill was wanted on the Canada-wide arrest warrant, he had barricaded himself inside a home in Lloydminster, Sask. Officers from four RCMP units had surrounded the home in the 4300 block of 32 Street after they saw him enter.

Lloydminster RCMP GIS members, Lloydminster Police Dog Services, Lloydminster RCMP, and Kitscoty RCMP evacuated several nearby homes because they believed Hill may have had a firearm.

Several people exited the home, but Hill had refused. Hours later, he surrendered.

During a search of Hill, Lloydminster RCMP GIS found more than an ounce of cocaine and an ounce of methamphetamine. He was charged with drug trafficking.

In September 2021, Hill was sentenced to four years in prison for taking RCMP on a high-speed chase. That incident started in Vermillion, Alta., after a suspect allegedly pointed a gun at a person on Jan. 19, 2021, say RCMP. The suspects involved fled Vermillion in a black SUV, which police located about an hour later on Highway 21 south of Fort Saskatchewan near Township Road 542 close to Edmonton.

An RCMP vehicle pursuing the black SUV went in the ditch and rolled near Range Road 540. A second RCMP vehicle was able to stop the SUV near Township Road 534. One RCMP officer was taken to hospital, treated for minor injuries and released. Hill was wanted on outstanding warrants in that incident as well.
