The Battleford Atom AA Barons defended home ice last weekend. The Barons won the A side championship of the Battleford Atom AA Barons Tier 1 Tournament at the Battleford Arena.

Our first day back was a bitterly cold day, so the buses were not able to bring the students to school.

The first half of North Battleford budget deliberations wrapped up on schedule Wednesday night, with council settling many long-awaited decisions on water, sewer and waste management in the city.

A strong economic boost is coming to the Northwest with the news that Husky Energy is going ahead with two new heavy oil thermal projects in the area. The projects are the 10,000 barrels/day Edam East project and the 10,000 barrels/day Vawn project.

Wow! It has been a crazy, busy ball. Members of the Reigning Riders 4-H Club have done a few different things. A trade show was hosted in October. Thank you to all those people who came out and supported this event.

One thing I do like about January, besides celebrating the birthdays of our two kids, is the fact that, although not completely obvious, you can notice slightly the days getting just moments longer as each day passes.

The Medstead senior boys' volleyball team had a great end to an amazing year. After winning the gold medal at the 1A provincial championship in Colonsay, the team was nominated for the sportsmanship banner from the SHSAA.

The year 2014 opened as cold as 2013 left, so we are used to it by now, but that doesn't mean we really like it that way.

Between 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 and 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, RCMP in North Battleford had over 25 calls for service/occurrences reported and responded to four alarms. Wednesday 2014.01.15 6:56 a.m.

Last weekend was a busy one in the SPHL with seven games taking place between Jan. 10 and 12. There were two games Friday night. The Cut Knife Colts beat the Mustangs 10-6 in Hafford. The Colts were led by Kirk MacDonald's hat trick.
