Here is a rundown of Battlefords RCMP detachment's activities of interest for the month of November, based on the detachment's monthly report to council compiled by acting detachment commander Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt and presented to council Monday.

Between 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 and 6 a.m. Friday, Jan 17, approximately 20 calls for service/occurrences were reported to RCMP in North Battleford.

The purchase of new buses has been put on hold by the Living Sky School Division until they know what kind of funding will be coming from the Ministry of Education.

Jan. 19 - 25 is National Non-Smoking Week, with Wednesday, Jan. 22 set aside as Weedless Wednesday. Residents of Prairie North Health Region are encouraged to consider the reason why Jan. 22 has been chosen as Weedless Wednesday in Canada.

Ryan Moe has officially taken over as the 2014 president of the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce. Moe was formally handed the gavel by outgoing Chamber president Sharon Mohagen at the President's Banquet at the Tropical Inn Thursday night.

Some encouraging November numbers greeted the arrival of the new RCMP commander at the Battlefords detachment. Inspector John Sutherland was introduced to council at Monday's meeting by acting detachment commander Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt.

Health officials have received confirmation of measles in an unimmunized infant who travelled by air to Saskatchewan in early January. The infant's family flew from the Philippines to Vancouver on Jan. 2, 2014, and then to Calgary and Regina on Jan.

This is a big week for the new 2014 Battlefords Chamber of Commerce president Ryan Moe. The Chamber directors officially unanimously elected him Tuesday as president. Moe, of G and C Asphalt Ltd., was first vice-president this past year.

"Let the future unfold" were the words from North Battleford mayor Ian Hamilton as he welcomed in 2014 at council.

The Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre is a beehive of activity now that the new year has come. The kids are back in school and some degree of normalcy has returned to life.
