Fall blooming perennials - part I

This second half of summer has been great - warm days and nights, the mosquitoes all but disappeared, and I don't recall any severe storms - at least in Saskatoon and surrounding areas.

Perfect harvest weather, so far

Perfect harvest weather is what we are enjoying and the harvest is progressing well. We can just hope there is a continuation of this weather for some time. School has been in session for a couple of weeks now.

Local music fans are in for a rare treat, as country roots band Petunia and the Vipers will be rolling into the area. The band will be playing at the Livelong Hall on Oct.1.

Trip to Cuba - first impressions and government structure in Cuba

Flying into Cuba, from the air, the soil looks reddish brown, with a lot of waste land, that I suspect is sandy. Or it may be that it is dead looking due to dryness. We are staying at Sol Melia Resort in Varadero for three days.

It was the first North Battleford municipal services committee meeting for new Fire Chief Albert Headrick on Monday.

Hay baled up, crops being harvested

It has been so dry and hot in the local area for some time, but it's ideal weather for the haymakers to finish up their winter supply of bales, and all in dry condition. Many grass areas and hay meadows have been cut and are all baled up.

Visitors from Denmark tour area

Visiting with Vic and Bev Hult recently were Stefan Neilsen and Karoline Mortensen from Denmark. Stefan was a trainee at the Hult farm in 2008. While here they visited many family and friends in the area.

Majority rules no bus change

Compassion or convenience. The Living Sky School Board is seeing some members moving away from black and white decisions when it comes to requests for bus route changes. But in one of the most recent requests, black and white continued to win out.
