As I wrote in last weeks News-Optimist, I was recently invited to be a judge at a debate tournament at NBCHS. As I described in my story about the experience, I left the debate with my mind full of thoughts, which took a few days to fully coalesce.

MILLER - After a courageous battle with cancer and with friends at her side, Agnes A. Miller passed away peacefully on January 23, 2012 at Tofield, Alberta. Ag was born on January 13, 1927 at Moosomin, Saskatchewan.

The funding issues threatening the operation of the emergency homeless shelter operated by Battlefords Indian Métis Friendship Centre appear to be resolved. The emergency homeless shelter had only enough funds to operate until Jan 31.

Colleen Koski was to Lloydminster to see her mom, May Ford, who is out of the hospital and doing much better. Our sympathy to the Alsager family on the passing of Irene Alsager of Williams Lake, B.C. Her funeral will be Feb.

FITZSIMONDS, Loran Ray . On Wednesday, January 4, 2012, Mr. Loran Fitzsimonds of Lloydminster passed away at the Lloydminster Hospital at the age of 84 years.
