It was a subtle but nonetheless genuine staring match. Hubbie and I were having lunch at his favourite fast-food outlet when I saw two men come in, buy a coffee and sit down.

A major fire at Jackfish Lake caused damage to three cabins Tuesday, with two cabins destroyed. The fire started late Tuesday night and firefighters were busy through the night trying to get the blaze under control.

The streak continues. The Battlefords North Stars extended their winning streak to eight games last weekend and during that streak they have had a player honoured with a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League weekly award.

The Gold Eagle Casino cheating case returns to court Nov. 15 when one of those charged will possibly enter a pleas. Christopher Stone-Spyglass will see his matters return to provincial court in North Battleford that day.

An open house held Oct. 24 during Saskatchewan Library week at the Speers Library was well attended. Door prizes were won by Kathleen Kivol and Marion Wohlberg for adults.

October will be a month the Battlefords Midget Stars will hope to quickly put behind them. The Stars went 0-9 during the month and fall to 0-11-0-0 on the season after losing 8-2 in Regina and 8-3 in Wilcox to the Notre Dame Hounds.

As usual, as we get close to election time, politics becomes one of the more common topics of discussion.

I have been seriously thinking about no longer writing for the Edam area, however, I have been complimented on the stories I have submitted and I'm sure there are people who would be disappointed if I should throw in the towel.

To those who closely follow the political scene an election is like the Grey Cup, Stanley Cup and World Series rolled into one.

With dusty antiques and floors with creaks, museums can be scary at the best of times. Add a band of costumed volunteers and it will lead to screams, gasps and giggles like those rising from the Maidstone Museum Sunday.
