Fire crews were busy over the weekend battling two separate blazes in the vicinity of the Battlefords. One of the fires happened about 14kilometres east on Highway 40 Sunday.

Harvest has been in full swing with above normal temperatures. The long weekend was a bit on the cool side and we even had to start the furnace in our camper one of those evenings. However it was a lazy weekend for us.

Five people were sent to hospital with undetermined injuries following a multi-vehicle accident on Carlton Trail and Territorial Avenue Thursday. Three vehicles were involved in the collision at that intersection.

The Battlefords North Stars have dwindled down the roster and Thursday morning it will be officially announced.

The Maidstone Museum annual corn and hot dog roast was held Labour Day from 4 to 7 p.m. It was enjoyed by more than 80 who attended on a perfect September harvest day.

NUNES: Maria Lea (nee Marshall), 88 years old, died at her home in Novato, California, after a long illness. She was born in Dol Bojanowice, near Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1922, to Johann Marsalek and Maria Marsalek (nee Mattiola).

The sun shone brightly as the community of Maidstone celebrated a little bit more summer during the school community council's Backyard Barbecue and Block Party Sept. 7.

The recent string of suspected vandalism across the community hit Lawrence School Thursday. A playground slide was destroyed by fire, according to North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services.

Some roster moves still remain to be made for the Battlefords Midget Stars, but after their first two games of the pre-season there appears to be some new optimism for the hockey team. The Stars were in Saskatoon Thursday to play the Blazers.

Battlefords RCMP used a spike belt to stop a fleeing vehicle on Highway 4 Early Friday morning, but not before one officer narrowly escaped injury in a previous attempt to stop the vehicle.
