DANA — Highway 2 was blocked near Dana and Sagehill due to a train derailment. The derailment took place in the morning of April 2. Canadian National staff are on site. Motorists were asked to slow down and use an alternate route.

NIPAWIN—The Nipawin Lions have cancelled their 2020 trade fair due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The trade fair was planned for April 17, 18 and 19. Brian Starkell , Nipawin Lions’ president, said the event typically raises about $15,000 per year.

Premier Scott Moe announced alongside chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab, Saskatchewan has recorded its third death resulting from COVID-19. Moe also announced on April 1 the province will extend the state of emergency for two more weeks.

The provincial New Democrats are disappointed with the measures taken in regards to the province’s Social Services pandemic response plan.

Saskatchewan’s official opposition is calling on the government to close all childcare centres in the province immediately.

A third death has been announced as the province announces nine new confirmed COVID-19 cases. As of April 1, the total is 193. The person who died was in the 80 to 89 age range. The province is not saying where the death happened.

EAST CENTRAL — The Regional Authority of Carlton Trail is asking for the public’s help as it takes additional action to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Landfills and transfer stations will remain open.
