HUMBOLDT — The city is ensuring everyone has the opportunity to tackle those new year fitness goals. Jan. 1, 2020 saw the launch of the new Leisure Access Program, which offers a one-year leisure pass for low income families and individuals.

MELFORT — There were no injuries as a bed caught fire in a home on Burns Avenue East in Melfort. Melfort Fire and Rescue responded to the call on Jan. 14.

HUMBOLDT — Drivers of electric vehicles will soon have a new place to fuel up quickly in Humboldt. The Humboldt Canadian Tire is one of 90 across the nation that will host an electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station by the end of 2020.

MELFORT — Debbie Sochaski’s life almost ended one summer, and she credits STARS to the reason it didn’t. Sochaski told her story to the community during the STARS heliport fundraising kick-off in Melfort on Jan. 15.

HUMBOLDT — Four acts from Humboldt will perform at this year’s Telemiracle. The 20-hour telethon, hosted by Saskatchewan Kin at Regina’s Conexus Arts Centre, will be on March 7 and 8.

HUMBOLDT — As a pet owner, there’s no worse feeling than not having your dog to greet you at home at the end of the day. For Virginia Bells, that was her family’s reality on Dec. 18 when their one-year-old St.

HUMBOLDT — Due to the extreme cold, there may be delays for home delivery of the East Central Recorder today in Humboldt. Carriers are being asked to use their best judgement and may deliver the paper in spurts so they can warm up.

MELFORT— Brunswick School in Melfort has installed an automated external defibrillator (AED) due to fundraising efforts. An AED is a portable electronic device used in the event of a heart attack to re-establish an effective cardiac rhythm.

EAST CENTRAL — School will remain open within the Horizon School Division, but there’s a certain temperature when school buses stop running. “When we reach a temperature of -40°C, or -45°C with a wind chill, our buses are required to not run.
