HUMBOLDT — While many cities are named after a person, the City of Humboldt is named after a telegraph station named after a person.

NIPAWIN — The 2018 SJHL champion Nipawin Hawks are hoping to keep flying by mixing in veterans from last season’s strong squad (38-15-2-3) with talented newcomers. Last year, the Hawks posted the SJHL’s best regular season.

HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Broncos are hoping youth will be served this season. Down to 25 on the roster on Sunday, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League squad is filled by many talented young players.

MELFORT — After a strong 2018-19 campaign, the Melfort Mustangs teams are seeking success again.

HUMBOLDT — Ninth Street in Humboldt looks smoother these days after crews resurfaced the street. Fifth to Seventh Avenue was resurfaced on Sept. 3 and 4 and introduced a new product to Humboldt streets, a type three Can Seal micro-surfacing.

NIPAWIN — David Petersen of Nipawin was found not guilty of uttering threats against the Prime Minister and the Parliament buildings during a phone call.

HUMBOLDT — S/Sgt. Al Presler spent his first years of his service with the RCMP in Humboldt 19 years ago. Now he has returned as the Humboldt detachment’s new commanding officer. Presler said he’s excited to be back in the community.

MELFORT —The City of Melfort is in discussions to move the location of the mural that was going to be installed at the Historic Post Office.

CARROT RIVER — An Arborfield man who stole 148 beehives worth around $60,000 was sentenced to nine months’ probation and 100 hours of community service. Brent McKee will also pay $6,512.32 in restitution to Moyen Honey Farms Ltd.
