EAST CENTRAL — Rural crime rates in Saskatchewan are the highest in the country, according to a Statistics Canada report. The report, released May 7, said in 2017 the crime rate in rural Saskatchewan was 13,829 per 100,000 population.

EAST CENTRAL — Despite cool weather April 30 to May 6, many producers have begun seeding operations and many more expect to be in the field this coming week, once conditions improve.

HUMBOLDT — When The Eagles took their 14-year break in 1980, Hotel California was formed to fill the void.

TISDALE — Four local dancers are graduating from the Tisdale Dance Centre this year, and the Dance Extravaganza was their final performance of the year.

MELFORT — The North East SPCA has hired their first shelter manager. Meagan Schmitz will be responsible for operating the Melfort-based Harry and Eve Vickar Shelter, which is scheduled to have its grand opening on Sept. 27. She started on April 29.

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt’s public art committee is looking for space and funding for new murals throughout the city. Finding space for new murals will also build on the success of the Canada 150 Mural Mosaic located at 706 Main St.

TISDALE — The Tisdale RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance after a family’s trampoline was stolen. The theft occurred between 4:30 am and 5 am on May 1 from a residential backyard on 96th Street.

EAST CENTRAL — The members of a merged board of governors that will oversee both Cumberland College and Parkland College has been announced.

HUMBOLDT — Safe Communities Humboldt and Area will be expanding the time and scope of their annual positive ticketing campaign.

MELFORT — Scott Woods and the Scott Woods Band are coming to Melfort to set the boards alight with toe-tapping old-time fiddle music.
