Horizon School Division strives to be a safe and caring place for all staff and students, and the school division showcased those values once again with their Reconciliation Flag Raising at the Horizon division offices in Humboldt on June 21.

NIPAWIN — A new group in Nipawin is trying to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents. Reconciliation Nipawin held its debut event, a blanket exercise designed to help teach 500 years of history in three hours.

TISDALE — Tisdale RCMP seized what’s strongly suspected to be crystal methamphetamine at a traffic stop. The June 9 stop lead to a search warrant being performed on a Tisdale residence, where more of the substance was found.

It was a busy week for the Humboldt Broncos and their families, as they spent the week in Las Vegas at the National Hockey League (NHL) Awards, and in Dallas for the NHL Draft.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) held their annual conference May 31 to June 3 with Humboldt mayor Rob Muench in attendance. As part of the conference, Muench says all the attendees got to sign up for study tours of city facilities.

The Humboldt Broncos may not be eligible to compete for the Stanley Cup, but the Broncos and the City of Humboldt will be Stanley Cup champions for a day.

To build on previous successes, the FCC Drive Away Hunger campaign kicked off this past June 7 with a barbecue at the Humboldt Co-op.

Hockey is a business, and in a lot of cases coaches are measured by wins and losses. For Humboldt Broncos head coach Darcy Haugan, the wins and losses were secondary to building good people.
