Rookie defencemen Tysen Rachkewich and Travis Pfeil are learning on the job this season with the Carrot River Outback Thunder. Both have earned contributing roles on the Prairie Junior Hockey League team.

Nipawin council has terminated the food services agreement with Spice Hospitality Inc. at the Evergreen Centre. The decision was made at a special closed meeting of council Oct. 27 and was effective Oct. 30. The restaurant is now closed.

With 49 votes, Zachary Youzwa has been elected as councillor for the RM of Nipawin's Division 5. Youzwa defeated David Hluchaniuk , who received 15 votes; Jason Froese , who received 14; and Conrad Kimmie , who received 4.

A poor four-minute stretch of hockey sunk the Melfort Mustangs as they fell 7-1 in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action at home to the Weyburn Red Wings. The Mustangs gave up four goals in those four minutes and could never recover on Oct. 24.
