Horizon School Division (HSD) never ceases to amaze me.

The Northeast’s two largest communities are taking stock of assets like water and sewer mains, roads, and heavy equipment and building a plan to maintain or replace them.

Even now, in my 30s, I always enjoy this time of year: back to school time. I love being part of the Humboldt community because I get to watch students from four different schools grow and learn.

Back to school means back to the football field for the Humboldt Collegiate Institute Mohawks, as they have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming season, with practices kicking off Aug. 28.

The City of Humboldt is recognizing a pair of causes during the course of September, as in addition to Big Brothers Big Sisters month, which can be found in the Aug.

The Town of Porcupine Plain has issued a fire ban, effect Sept. 8. No one in town is to light any open fires, nor set off fireworks. The order will remain in effect until further notice.

The Nipawin Hawks wasted little time jumping in to their pre-season schedule as they locked horns with the Flin Flon Bombers for a pair of weekend matchups. The Hawks kicked off the week on Sept. 2 as they welcomed the Flin Flon Bombers to the Cage.

It’s interesting to look back at the old newspapers and get a glimpse of what people thought would never change. One of those things was Sunday shopping.

School is just around the corner and PARTNER’S Family Services has been hard at work in recent weeks collecting school supplies to get children ready to go back.
