1950s North Battleford. kids might spend entire days outdoors, even in winter. Not everybody had, or wanted, a car. School principals could still administer the strap.

The only difference I can see in last winter and this winter is how long it will last. Maybe I am becoming a wuss but I am finding this winter too cold for too long.

The Borden Friendship Club held a Christmas bingo Dec. 17 with a small turnout. Winning hams or turkeys were Helen Sutherland, Audrey Duda, Lottie Petriew and Terry Kun. Double winners were Rita Smith, Jackie Meister and Eileen Petrun.

Council meetings in the Village of Meota have changed the date to the second Tuesday of the month, so the next meeting will be on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the village office.

The temperature here, Sunday is -31 C. Cold weather is forecast until Thursday, We have experienced a few very cold spells already this winter. The deep freeze we are now in covers a good part of Canada.

I trust all had a very enjoyable Christmas season and will enjoy a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. We had a good couple of weeks visiting with family and friends.

Paynton Volunteer Fire Fighters and guests enjoyed a night out on New Year's Eve. At this year's Fireman's Ball in Paynton, guests were entertained by musical act Prairie Rider from Edmonton, Alta.

Cards were played Dec. 16 at the Maidstone Drop In Centre. High score went to Margaret MacEachern and low to Jean Hartman. Lunch was provided by Denise Newton. Christmas bingo was played Dec. 18 with a good turnout.

Good grief, how did it get to be mid-January already? It seems like we were just enjoying Christmas. I know one thing I haven't been enjoying, and that's winter.
