Council seats up for election

The Village of Paynton will be holdinga general election Oct. 24.Nominations are in and it will be interesting to see who gets elected this term. Paynton and District Fire Department has received new equipment.

Auxiliary notes

The Legion Ladies Auxiliary No. 142 met for the first meeting after summer break Sept. 4. It was a quiet summer with not much activity. The group had to turn down some activities because of lack of help.

Centre activities have resumed

The regular activities for the Maidstone Drop In Centre have started for the fall season with 500 cards being played on Labour Day. High score went to Jean Stewart and low to Eva Inkster. There was a good turnout for bingo Sept.

Supported living facility houses 28 residents

The city's newest personal care home officially opened its doors on April 16th 2012, welcoming the first two residents, Rudy and Helen Blanchette. Now five months later, we have 28 residents, two cats, MiMac and Dusty and one dog, Lily.

Many thanks to the people of the community and friends who are generous and kept us supplied with fresh garden produce. The heat and humidity of the summer was not too appreciated.

Museum season ends with corn roast

A busy season at the Maidstone museum finished with the annual corn roast on Labour Day. The added attraction that day was an antique car show.

Summer on the coast enjoyed

I'm back from a six-week holiday in Prince George, B.C. with my daughter and her family. The weather was very good. They were saying that it was the nicest summer they've had in a few years.

September brings on the visual beginnings of autumn and with it some wonderful programs to inspire the artist within. An Afternoon Knit In is perfect for the coming winter months.

New staff welcomed at H. Hardcastle School

School got back underway with a general assembly during the second class of the day, Sept. 4, where the SRC outlined their plans for the school activities this year. New staff and students were welcomed with a game for the new staff.
