In the Community

An enjoyable summer is upon us again. It is good to see the gardens and flowers growing so nicely. Many residents are away enjoying travel or family arriving from quite far away.

Here it is already the end of June. How time flies. There were many happy smiles going around here after the wonderful rain recently. Now if we can just get the weatherman to give some nice sunny weather it would be great.

Wow, has the last week ever flown by. I'm not sure where it went. H. Hardcastle School undergrad awards were presented June 16. The following students achieved honour and merit roll.

Borden's 2011 high school graduates, Jesse Pidwerbesky, Melissa Saunders, Brittany Schroeder, Tamara Tkaczyk and Thomas Wensley, celebrated their accomplishments at the tastefully decorated Borden Community Centre, June 10.

A fashion show melding contemporary fashion with First Nation cultural elements was a special event held at the Chapel Gallery in North Battleford Sunday, June 29.

Canada Day weekend at Glenburn Regional Park was outstanding. Mel Deagnon arranged weekend jam sessions starting July 1 and ending July 3. Musicians got together to perform for the crowds that gathered all three days to listen to their music.

A dozen volunteer firefightersfrom Cut Knife received certificates on the successful completion of the ICS 100 course June 20.

School is out! And summer is only eight short weeks, so make the most of every day. Graduation was held June 30 with the exercises at the school gym in the morning. The social and dance were held in the evening at the Unity Community Centre.

Paynton artists Mariann Taubensee and Ellery Russell spent four days in Edmonton for the ReArtCycle show, DemoMission, June 23 to 26.

As depressing as it may be, the longest day of the year is behind us already and we are actually closer to Christmas 2011 than we are to last Christmas! Is it too early to begin Christmas shopping? June 21 was a busy evening in Rabbit Lake.
