There was a shakeup last Friday in the race for the leadership of the Saskatchewan Party. Rosthern-Shellbrook MLA Scott Moe announced his entry into the leadership race with the backing of 21 members of the Saskatchewan Party caucus.

On the morning of Sept. 3, Cut Knife RCMP responded to a complaint of an assault.

Submitted Battlefords RCMP responded to 318 calls for service between Friday Sept. 1, 6 a.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 6 a.m.

The Carrot River Fire Department is looking for new recruits. Scott Debienne , the department’s fire chief, said he has four members, who started as junior firefighters, leaving the department to go on to higher education.

A crash between a truck and a car during the long weekend killed one person in the car and injured another. The driver of the truck is charged with impaired driving causing death.

Local merchants got together at the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce offices recently to find out what they could do to deal with criminal activity impacting their stores. The activity they were concern about is shoplifting.

Billets are still needed for this year’s Saskatchewan Student Leadership Conference, which will be held in Tisdale. Randy Kerr , Tisdale Middle & Secondary School’s principal, said they are substantially short of meeting demand.
