MAIDSTONE — The Maidstone campaign to collect donations for the Canadian National Institute of the Blind is reporting a record year for fundraising in 2014. A total of $5,108 was raised for the CNIB in Maidstone district during a fall canvass.

Decreases and increases in RCMP stats for January
Calls for service may be down, but there were some troubling upward trends in the January crime statistics from Battlefords RCMP detachment. The overall calls for service were down for the month from 960 in January 2014 to 760 last month.

The board of directors of North West Terminal Ltd. has announced a net profit of $6,722,058 for the period Nov. 1, 2013 to Oct. 31, 2014, or 2.05 per share. NWT also posted net revenues from operations of $143.

Garbage fire extinguished
North Battleford Fire Department responded to a garbage fire in the rear compound of Peavy Mart Friday just before 11 p.m. Three firefighters spent about 10 minutes extinguishing a bag of garbage that was burning. No damage was reported.
