Every year, the findings of a familiar national statistical survey make the news during the last week of July.

Members of the North Battleford Provincial General Investigation Section and North Battleford Municipal RCMP conducted a traffic stop on 101st Street in North Battleford which led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man.

The North Battleford RCMP reported more than 20 calls for service between 6 a.m. Thursday, July 24 and 6 a.m. Friday, July 25.

101st Street from 11th Avenue to 13th Avenue and at 12th Avenue from 100th Street to 102nd Street will be closed for the North Battleford International Street Performer Festival.

It's news some local residents will have trouble believing, but the crime stats are down again in the city of North Battleford. That is based on the RCMP reported statistics not only for the month of June, but for the first six months of the year.

Nominations close this week for the annual Battlefords Business Excellence (BBEX) Awards. Nominations are due in at the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce by Friday, July 25.

In presenting the quarterly policing report to Battleford town council Monday, Insp. John Sutherland of the RCMP said, "Overall things are generally down, which is a trend we're seeing across both communities, so that's good news.

A couple of sizable financial contributions have been made to the Battlefords community by the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses. The first is a $25,000 contribution to Concern for Youth, with funding going towards their drop-in youth centre project.

As of Monday, building permits have been issued for 19 new single family homes in Battleford and options to purchase have been taken out on five of the 32 Battle Springs subdivision lots for sale.
