The prospect of a jail sentence still hangs over the head of a man charged in the Gold Eagle Casino card cheating case.

The final 2011 statistics from Battlefords City Detachment of the RCMP show property crimes and break and enters dropped for the year, but drug offences, liquor acts and motor vehicle collisions rose.

Police are reporting the theft of fuel from a farm located in a rural area near Cando, Saskatchewan. Battlefords Rural RCMP and the police dog service attended the complaint on Jan. 13 around 11pm.

A fire that broke out Saturday on Sweetgrass First Nation is under investigation by the RCMP. According to police, the fire started shortly before 4:30 p.m., with the residence already engulfed in flames as police arrived.

The recent cold snap notwithstanding, this winter has been an unseasonably warm one for the Battlefords, with the community losing much of its snow over the last few weeks of above-zero weather.
