UNITY - Speed skating isn’t exactly a popular sport in our area. When you think of speed skating, you think of Olympic champions like Clara Hughes or Catriona Le May Doan. There’s a new name to add to the list of well-known speed skaters.

The Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) mixed curling team is advancing to regionals after coming out the B-side winners at districts in Wadena on Feb. 6 and 7. “They played very well,” said coach Teri Tarrant.

While the Humboldt Broncos have a number of first-year forwards, head coach Ryan Smith said that the coaching staff doesn’t think the rookie tag applies any more.
