The Battlefords North Stars gave their fans an opportunity to witness the 2012-13 regular season award winners in a different atmosphere than seasons past.

The Battleford Beaver Blues finished fifth in the regular season and were considered underdogs to repeat as Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League champions, but after two series sweeps they are three wins away from raising the trophy once again.

The Battlefords AAA Sharks earned their third win of the season in their final Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League regular season game.

At the beginning of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League season, head coach Martin Smith and the Battlefords Midget Stars set goals for the season. One was to make it to the Mac's Tournament in December, another was to make the playoffs.

Things have changed in New Horizons curling. As of Feb. 19 they now have three teams tied for first place, each with five wins and a couple of losses. These teams are the Hall, Horrell and the Korpach rinks.

The Battlefords North Stars ended the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League regular season with games against the top four teams in the league. After beating Humboldt Feb.

Saturday afternoon was another well-attended Jackfish Lake Ice Fishing Derby. An estimated 2,400 fishing enthusiasts converged on the frozen lake to try their luck catching the fish that roamed underneath the ice.

After prolonging the first round series, the Wilkie Outlaws and Paradise Hill Hawks eventually hit the ice for the third game of their series and now four teams remain in the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League playoffs.

The new Northland Power Curling Centre was host to another major regional curling event this past weekend.
