As the world's best golfers were on the course competing for the PGA Championship, some of the best the Battlefords and surrounding area has to offer were also on the course in North Battleford.

Some breakfast, a little golf, supper and some old time hockey stories - does it get much better than that? Oh yeah, all that while raising money for three worthy organizations in the Battlefords.

After what was a bit of a struggle this season for the midget aged baseball players from the Battlefords, one of them found a silver lining.

Ernest Roy Burns was born Oct. 12, 1913 and was raised on the family farm at Flintoft Plessis. He took his schooling at Plessis, then spent the next few years working on farms until taking over the family farm in 1954.

The first half of the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games from Kamloops, B.C. is completed. Four local area athletes competed in the first half of the games in track and field. The locals also contributed to Saskatchewan's medal count.

Three Battlefords Midget Bandits traded in their uniforms for Pilot Butte Storm attire in the last month, as they were picked up to play in Medicine Hat at the Midget B Women's Fastball Western Canadian Championships.

The North Saskatchewan River Baseball League is down to the final two teams and once again those two teams are the Lloydminster Meridian Twins and Wilkie Brewers.

In less than a week, two former Boston Bruin greats will be in the Battlefords for the North Battleford Golf and Country Club's Celebrity Sportsman Fundraiser.

He is on his way, from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, passing by Olds, Alta., a familiar coaching stop in his career, and now is set to make his first appearance in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
