National Volunteer Week was celebreated in Canada during April 7 to 13. This year’s theme was: “Celebrate the Value of Volunteering”. Volunteer Week is a time to recognize, celebrate, and say “thank you” to Canada’s estimated 12.7 million volunteers.

At long last, spring has finally arrived and not a moment too soon. Spring is magic here on the prairies. Very soon, the grass will be green, buds on shrubs and trees will become leaves, and flowers will be all in full bloom.

A Mother’s Day Tea and Fashion Show will be presented by the Friends of the Gravelbourg Convent on Saturday, May 12.

The Assiniboia and District Pro-Life will host their spring banquet at the St. George’s Parish Centre on Sunday, May 6 at 6 p.m. The keynote speaker is Carla Carlson, a Swift Current area lawyer and palliative care advocate.

Two well-known radio personalities - Jamie Lewis (on the left) from CKRM Regina, and Jason Lee (on the right) from CJWW Saskatoon - blew into town on April 19 and 20 to help local volunteers and fundraisers sell Spring Fever Lotto tickets.

Claire Seal, Branch Manager of Conexus Credit Union presents Curtis Nelson, President of the Civic Improvement Association a cheque for $50,000 towards Assiniboia’s New Arena.

The Town of Assiniboia sponsored and hosted a special Awards Night at the Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre on April 18, recognizing several individuals who demonstrate outstanding service toward the community.
