Summer vacation is almost here for the young people in our area. Already they are looking forward to those long days without school, without homework, and without the routine that the educational system imposes upon them.

Last week, the grade 7 and 8 classes had the opportunity to attend the Inter-School Pow-wow at Whitebear. The students were treated to an amazing display of dancing and drumming. The students were all very impressed.

Town Council held their regular meeting on Wednesday, May 18. The town of Carlyle has been designated as eligible for the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program. Letters were to be mailed out to Carlyle community members on May 20.

For farmers who have grown to despise the Canadian Wheat Board, the election of a federal Conservative majority is the best news in decades.

We become too easily desensitized to news of natural disasters. After all, they are inevitable and even the most sensational stories of crime, neglect or ineptitude have become all too commonplace.

The Arcola Family Health Clinic celebrated its first anniversary on May 17. The clinic is owned by a corporation formed by eight neighbouring towns and rural municipalities, and provides essential services to the community and its surrounding area.

Rip-roaring, crowd-cheering, close-finishing fun will take place on May 28 in Carlyle. The Bowan-Rekken Memorial Moto-X Track will once again be home to riders, fans and families filling the stands.
