APES students take part in first-ever mini-golf tournament

Students from every grade came to play the mini-golf course, with the grades divided up over three days, plus prizes were donated for the participants

WEYBURN – Students at Assiniboia Park Elementary School took part in the first-ever Mini-Golf Tournament to be held at the APES playground.

A total of 126 students signed up to take part and were very excited to have this event take place.

Students from Gr. 1-6 students have been practicing golf in Phys.Ed classes for the last couple of weeks and really enjoyed it, so teacher Kevin Butz decided to organize the tournament, with the holes set up on the playground.

The Grades 1-2 golfed on June 13 with 46 golfers; Grade 3-4 golfed on June 14 with 36 golfers, and Grades 5-6 golfed on June 15 with 37 golfers. A few extra students joined up along the way to bring the total to 126 golfers.

Prizes were donated by the Weyburn Golf and Country Club, Estevan Woodlawn Golf and Country Club and Canadian Tire. A golf bag and clubs came from Canadian Tire, golf shirts and range passes were from the Weyburn GCC, and a hat, head cover and golf balls were from Estevan.

Butz made the draws for the prizes on Wednesday and will be announced at the morning assembly on Monday.
