Redvers and Carnduff grab Big Six series leads

The Big Six Hockey League semifinals are underway.

The Redvers Rockets and the Carnduff Red Devils have grabbed early leads in their best of five Big Six Hockey League semifinal series.

Top-seeded Redvers gained the early edge in their clash with the No. 4 Moosomin Rangers by defeating Moosomin 2-1 on Friday night. The game was scoreless until the midway point of the third period when Brayden Holloway scored for the Rangers.

Olivier Poirier tied the game, and Remy Lamotte scored the winner with 76 seconds remaining in regulation.

Cody Matthewson was in goal for Redvers, while Levi Horn was the Moosomin goalie.

Game 2 is set for March 4 in Moosomin, and Game 3 is slated for the following night in Redvers. Both games have 8 p.m. start times.

The No. 2 Carnduff Red Devils beat the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings 6-4 on Monday night in Carnduff in Game 1 of that series. Carnduff raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Matt Audette, Brandon Trask and Ben Hiltz. Audette finished with three goals on the night and Hiltz had two.

Zak Hicks, Braden Mellon, Tucker Neuberger and Mike Onstad had the Yellow Grass markers.

Cody Dumaine was in goal for Carnduff, while Terrick Wilderman was the Yellow Grass goalie.

Game 2 is slated for Wednesday night in Yellow Grass at 8 p.m.

In provincial play, Carnduff lost 6-5 in overtime at Davidson in Game 1 of the best-of-three senior C south final – a game that Carnduff led 5-2 after the first period.

Dominic Turner, Dan Moriarty, Carey Levesque, Derek Cooney and Audette had the Carnduff goals.

Dumaine was the goalie.

Game 2 is March 5 in Carnduff at 8 p.m., and Game 3, if necessary, would be the following day in Carnduff at 3 p.m.
