Southern Rebels face off against two teams during home opener weekend

The Southern Rebels hosted two home games at the Assiniboia Civic Centre on October 16 and 17.

ASSINIBOIA - The Richardson Pioneer Southern Rebels faced off against Fort Knox and the Saskatoon Quakers in two home games, hosted at the Assiniboia Civic Centre on October 16 and 17.

During the first game, held Saturday night, Fort Knox had a strong start to the game, scoring three goals in the first period. Fort Knox added two more goals in the second period. Jordan Johnson scored an unassisted goal for the Southern Rebels.

Fort Knox continued to keep the Southern Rebels at bay, scoring another three goals in the third period, for the 8-1 victory.

Kolter Mealing was in net for the Southern Rebels, and he had 36 saves out of 44 shots on net.

During the second game, held Sunday afternoon, the Saskatoon Quakers took an early lead after the first period. Saskatoon scored two goals. Joel Niemegeers scored a goal for the Southern Rebels, with assists from Trey Stocker and Jordan Johnson. The Quakers added two goals in the second period, and then three goals in the third period to claim the 7-1 victory.

Mealing was in net again for the Southern Rebels. He stopped 47 saves against 54 attempts on net.

The Southern Rebels were in Pilot Butte on Wednesday evening.

The Southern Rebels will have another pair of home games this weekend. They host the Saskatoon Westleys on Saturday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m., and the Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals on Sunday, October 24 at 2 p.m.
