The participants at Estevan Diversified Services (EDS) celebrated Halloween by hosting a scarecrow competition this week. The uniquely decorated scarecrows were put on display in the dining room of the main EDS building.

The two candidates for mayor and the 11 candidates for councillor gave their thoughts on issues facing Estevan during a candidates’ forum hosted by the Estevan Chamber of Commerce Thursday night at the Access Communications studio.

The election for Division 3 in the RM of Estevan features a showdown between a veteran councillor and a first-time challenger. Dennis Blackburn, who has been a councillor for the RM for 16 years, will face Kevin Daoust.

Three women candidates are going after a councillor position for the RM of Estevan’s Division 5.

Two candidates are aspiring for a Division 1 seat on the RM of Estevan Council this year. Newcomer Jeff Mack is challenging incumbent councillor Lorne Jahn, who’s been part of the council for the past 27 years.

There are 82 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Oct. 29, bringing the total to 2,990 cases. Two new cases are in the southeast region, but neither of them are in Southeast Zone 4, which includes Estevan.

The City of Estevan has entered into a co-operation agreement with the Ocean Man First Nation and Buffalo Potash Corp.

The Estevan Chamber of Commerce will host an all-candidates forum for the upcoming civic election in the City of Estevan on Thursday night, starting at 7 p.m. The event is happening at the Access Communications studio in Estevan.

The Carievale 4-H Beef Club has started holding monthly meetings. Kamryn Gilliland called the Sept. 14 meeting to order and the pledge was recited. The financial report was given, and motion was made to pay the bills.

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation has already launched one aspect of its Festival of Trees fundraiser, and other components will start soon.
