Grandmothers were pitched against grandmothers, but all in good fun, at the fifth annual children’s art auction at the Shurniak Art Gallery in Assiniboia on October 22. The auction showcased pieces by very young artists.

The works of local artist Beth Stobbs was on display in the Kay Cristo Room during October. Her pieces feature the landscape around Wood River as well as wildlife and a series on birch trees.

The Assiniboia and District Arts Council kicked off its fall concert series with “Oh Canada, We Sing for Thee” featuring Leisa Way and The Wayward Wind Band on September 29.

Penny Marshall’s A League of Their Own (1992) is a movie favourite for many, and certainly one for playwright Maureen Ulrich. Her one-act, one-woman show Diamond Girls portrays the 12-year saga of Philip K.

The annual Gravelbourg Coffee House will be entertaining audiences on Saturday November 4 and Sunday, November 5 at The Renaissance Gaiety Theatre in Gravelbourg. This year’s line up is called “A Night in The Spotlight”.

Laila Biali is looking forward to her first appearance in Estevan. The acclaimed jazz singer, pianist and songwriter will perform at Estevan Comprehensive School on Oct. 26, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The Estevan Arts Council (EAC) had an active year in 2016-17, thanks to the activities that were offered through its different committees. The organization held its annual general meeting on Oct. 4.
