The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs junior girls basketball team finished fourth at their home tournament this weekend.

By Bruce Penton Toronto Maple Leafs may be Stanley Cup contenders and the darlings of Canada’s two major sports networks, but the basketball Raptors are the most successful sports story in Hogtown.

The Estevan Meter Bruins had a significant winning streak going that fell apart early Sunday against the visiting Yorkton Terriers.

It’s still early for high school basketball, but the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs senior boys won their first tournament of the year in Weyburn.

The Estevan peewee Bearcats split their games in league play this past weekend. The first game on Saturday was an 11-2 loss against the undefeated Southwest Cyclones.

The Carlyle PureChem Cougars and the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings continue to lead the Big Six Hockey League. Carlyle (5-1-0-2) had a win and a tie in league play, winning 8-5 over the Oxbow Huskies on Dec.

For most of the season, the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins have been playing against teams far away from the Viterra Division that they’ve won the last two seasons.

The Home Hardware Canada Cup hosted by Estevan last week was a boon to a lot of the city’s businesses.

It was a great weekend in the pool for the Estevan Sharks water polo teams as five teams travelled to Saskatoon this past weekend for their winter provincials and they came home with five medals overall.
