The Assiniboia Composite High School Senior Girls basketball team held its ninth annual Pink Day game on February 2. This event is the culmination of several fundraisers in the fight against cancer.

Two players from the Southern Rebels were presented with league awards on February 3, by Mark Legare, PJHL executive member. Trey Tendler was named to the Bill Johnston (South Division) All-Star Team.

The peewee AA Westmoreland Bruins had no issues finding the net this week in a pair of games as they make their way to the end of their regular season.

The Estevan TS&M Bruins didn’t give up a lot of goals last weekend in their two road games but they didn’t score a lot either. The Bruins tied 2-2 in Regina against the Pat Blues Saturday and lost 2-1 to the Melville Millionaires Sunday.

The annual McLeod Basketball Series against Estevan will be held in Weyburn on Tuesday, February 13. The games will start at 5:30 p.m. The Estevan part of the home-and-home series was hosted on February 6.

R.R. Alaro of the Weyburn Eagles senior boys team headed to the net against Jack McGeough of the Estevan Elecs during the McLeod Series on Tuesday evening at the ECS gym.

The 2018 Tim Hortons Brier and SaskEnergy announced the 64 junior curlers in Saskatchewan who were selected as SaskEnergy Future Stars, including some Weyburn area curlers.

As reported in last week’s Mercury, with only two rinks in town, the Estevan Strippers are moving their tournament to have a few games in Bienfait this year.

Steve Laycock has won the Tankard a few times before, but he said it never gets any less exciting. He put his seventh Tankard on the mantle after a 9-7 win over Colton Flasch Sunday afternoon at Affinity Place.

Brent Gedak’s week had some ups and downs over the course of his hometown SaskTel Tankard but overall the week went fairly well for him and his team of third Clint Dieno, second Derek Owens and lead Shawn Meyer.
