The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs and Weyburn Eagles senior boys teams gave spectators a bit of a preview Friday of the McLeod Series.

It was a week to forget on the ice for the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins as a visit from the Kinderlsey Klippers ground the Bruins to an offensive halt.

The Estevan Bruins got to see a little bit of their future as Ryder Pierson has able to get into the lineup last Wednesday against Kindersley.

Several players from the Estevan Sharks water polo teams have joined with the National Championship League’s 14U teams over the next couple of months. The teams will be part of an attempt to get into the Western Finals in Edmonton in May.

At 16-years-old, Jarred Valentine, son of Steve and April Valentine, has earned an exciting opportunity to compete in San Antonio, Texas.

The Carlyle PureChem Cougars rang in the New Year with their first game of 2018 on Saturday, Jan. 6, against the Oxbow Huskies. The first period saw the Cougars come out with the first goal by Ben Johnstone assisted by Mark Shaw and Brett Turgeon.

While the Westmoreland Bruins didn’t come out of the gate after Christmas on fire, the team did end up winning a pair of games at home against the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Bruins (5-13-0) lost 9-1 on Jan.

The Estevan peewee Bear Cats first two games after the Christmas breaks were a pair of tough games on the road against some solid competition.

The Estevan TS&M Bruins performed well enough to win a game up in the northern half of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League – never a sure task – but weren’t able to sweep the weekend.

Perhaps with still a bit of turkey leftovers on the brain, the Carnduff Red Devils lost only their second game of the year on their second game after Christmas in Big Six Hockey League action last weekend.
