Powerlifting is a type of weightlifting that focuses on lifting a heavy amount of weight once, rather than a high rep count of lower weight. The sport contains three types of lifts: squats, deadlifts and bench press.

From Nov. 10 – 13, the 2017 Skate Canada Saskatchewan Sectionals were held in Humboldt. Seven athletes from Skate Yorkton attended the event. The Yorkton skaters saw a lot of success at the event, including two provincial titles.

Both the boys and girls volleyball teams from MC Knoll School won the Yorkton Elementary School Sports Association city championships this past weekend. The girls beat St. Michael’s in the final, which earned them the gold medal.

The first hockey game for the Canora Novice Black team may have resulted in a loss, but players and coaches still left with high hopes for the remainder of the season.

Canora Composite School’s senior boys volleyball team finished the first year as a new team with a home conference to further hone its skills.

The first round of Duck Mountain Super League (DMSL) men’s curling was played in Kamsack November 15 when all seven teams based in Canora, Benito, Arran, Norquay and Kamsack that had competed in 2015 were back to play again this year.

Although opening about a month later than normal, the skating rink at Broda Sportsplex was ready for skaters on November 10.

The Yorkton United Football Club (YUFC) U12 girls Tornadoes started their tournament season by winning silver at the Lakewood Kickstart Soccer tournament in Saskatoon on Nov 11-12.

The Canora senior Cougars girls volleyball team finished a successful season with a third-place victory. Conference playoffs took place for the Canora Composite School team at Langenburg on November 5, according to coach Colin Knight.

The Yorkton United Football Club (YUFC) U16 Boys opened their 2016-2017 indoor season by travelling to Saskatoon this past weekend, Nov. 11-13, to compete in the Lakewood Kickstart Tourney at the Sasktel Soccer Centre.
