The East Central District Athletic Association (ECDAA) held its Senior District Curling Championship this weekend at the Yorkton Curling Club.

Former YRHS Raider linebacker Grey McKen, now a defensive end for the University of Regina Rams football team, got quite the surprise back on December 21. While scrolling through his emails, McKen, 18, came upon one from Football Canada.

Both the YRHS Raiders and SHHS Saints senior boys’ basketball teams welcomed 10 other Saskatchewan high school basketball teams to Yorkton this past weekend for the fifth annual York City Classic basketball tournament.

It was a successful weekend for the YRHS Lady Raiders senior girls’ basketball team as they travelled to Balgonie to participate in a two day, eight team tournament, where they went 2-1, bringing home the ‘B’ side championship in the process.

The Lady Saints won the ‘B’ side championship in Melville this past weekend. They lost to Foam Lake 66-34 in Game One with their top scorers being Kendra Varjassy 10 points and Taniesha Roussin with eight points.

It may be the middle of hockey season, however if one were to set foot in the Gallagher Centre this past weekend it wouldn’t have been the hockey games that took centre stage.

The Yorkton Force U-16 female volleyball team hosted their first tournament as their own volleyball club after breaking out from the Yorkton Blitz Volleyball Club prior to the beginning of the club season, finishing seventh with an overall record of

The 2015 Yorkton Senior Bonspiel, organized by Karen and Ray Theis, took place from Jan. 18-23 with 14 local teams and 11 from out of town (Melville, Langenburg and Saltcoats) competing throughout the week.

This upcoming weekend Yorkton’s two high school senior boys’ basketball teams, the YRHS Raiders and the Sacred Heart Saints, will put aside their differences and join forces for a far greater cause.
