Yorkton This Week

While Yorkton is still in the grip of winter, local planters got a head start on their gardening and farming plans at the annual Seedy Saturday event over the weekend at the Victory Church.

Four adults living with disabilities celebrated the opening of their new group home in Yorkton on Feb. 21. Dignitaries such as MLA Greg Ottenbreit and Mayor Bob Maloney attended the grand opening of the group home last Wednesday.

The train was locked still near the FFun Motor Sports building near Yorkton. A tipped-over snowmobile laid on the tracks while a second one was pushed to the side. A pair of riders were splayed on the snow next to their machines.

Team Parkland Valley won a total of 15 medals at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford. That medal total includes 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze. The gold medals were split between figure skating and weightlifting.

When people donate to homeless charities and organizations, they usually provide non-perishable foods, used clothing, or money. But there’s one type of item that sometimes falls to the wayside.

The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce has announced the speaker for the 2018 Chamber Business Dinner. This year’s speaker is Janet Bannister. In the business world, Bannister is best known for launcing kijiji.ca, one of the most visited websites in Canada.

The Yorkton Senior Curling Social was held at the Gallagher Center this past week. There were 16 rinks in attendance, 10 local and 6 from out of town.
