Blaine Lake Community Association (BLCA) held its annual general meeting April 3 in conjunction with a volunteer appreciation barbecue. The weather was beautiful with the mercury reaching 17 degrees making ideal barbecuing weather.

We hope all students are enjoying their Easter holidays. Some students from Waseca are enjoying a tour of Greece and Italy.

North Battleford city council has authorized the permanent closure of a portion of two streets in North Battleford's north end. The first is a portion of 25th Avenue in Fairview Heights adjacent to Henderson Drive.

Blaine Lake senior club held an April Fool's Day social the evening of April 1. Twenty local residents gathered in the centre to enjoy an evening of speech and music.

Scouts Canada has come up with a promotion to complement the pink wave that hit the Battlefords last week.

I consider myself a sports guy. I wouldn't say a prime athlete, because that requires more training and likely a higher level of skill than I have at my chosen sports.

The 2012 professional baseball season is upon us and home grown talent Andrew Albers got his first action Saturday. Albers pitched three innings with the New Britain Rock Cats, the AA affiliate in the Minnesota Twins organization.

This is the tail end of Easter break for the kids and they head back to class Monday. Time will move quickly as the last indoor sport at the schools, badminton, will be into the end of its season with playoffs coming up quickly.

Each and every year as the season changes from winter (not my favourite season) to spring, I get excited about the things that are coming. First and foremost, I anticipate elevation in the ambient temperature.

Dear Editor Bill C-19, legislation to kill the long gun registry was signed into law by the Governor General April 5. Since the enactment of C-68 the firearm community has been waiting since 1995 for this to happen.
