It wasn't a bird. It wasn't a plane. It was the STARS air ambulance, making its first landing in Humboldt.

The Annaheim Rebels are off to Provincials. The senior boys' volleyball team from Annaheim won a berth to Provincials at the 1A boys' regional tournament they hosted November 17.

They displayed determination and fight, but didn't get the wins. The Englefeld Eagles hosted the 1A Girls' Volleyball Provincial Championship tournament November 16-17, but didn't get to claim a medal.

There's no denying that no matter how much we enjoy sports - playing and watching - life anywhere is further enriched by the presence of a strong arts community. We have one of those in Humboldt.

Anyone who drops into the Habitat for Humanity building site these days will likely see a team of volunteers, covered in dust or paint, chattering away as they work on the Humboldt project that began in July 2012.

It has been a good year for the animals at the Humboldt and District SPCA shelter. The SPCA's animal shelter on the east side of Humboldt has seen 70 animals adopted since July and has taken in about 90 animals, said Wanda Price of the SPCA.
