HUMBOLDT — A year after The Elizabeth retirement community opened up 29 independent living units, it celebrated the grand opening of 11 care home suites. The grand opening and official ribbon cutting was held on Oct. 1.

FLETT’S SPRINGS — Melfort Fire and Rescue responded to a water rescue in the RM of Flett’s Springs where an SUV and driver were stranded in the water, approximately 150 feet from the shore. The department responded to the call at 8:38 a.m. on Oct.

HUMBOLDT — A young Humboldt Broncos team has been thriving on the road early this season. The squad went 3-0 last week and is on a four-game winning streak.

TISDALE — As the season begins, the Tisdale Trojans are seeking continued improvement. The team went 1-1-0-1 last week. The Trojans shut out Yorkton, 6-0, on the road last Wednesday.

HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Collegiate Institute football team was successful in its first road game of the season. On a rainy Thursday afternoon last week in North Battleford, the HCI Mohawks romped past the John Paul II Collegiate Crusaders, 41-16.

HUMBOLDT — Those that have questions of the candidates running in the federal election will have their chance at an all-candidates forum being held right here in Humboldt.

STAR CITY — Several hundred bushels of feed barley were lost at a grain dryer fire in the RM of Star City. Melfort Fire and Rescue responded to a reported fire in a grain dryer at 1:00 a.m. on Oct. 1.

TISDALE — Singer and songwriter Jeffery Straker is returning to East Central communities as part of the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC). He is coming to perform in Tisdale, hosted by the Tisdale Arts Council on Oct. 12.

HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Hammerheads held their annual awards night, acknowledging the work of the team throughout the season. The evening started off with the annual general meeting taking place.
