An excellent start propelled the Melfort Mustangs to their fourth straight win to open the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season as they knocked off the Humboldt Broncos 2-1 on Sept. 22 in Humboldt.

Humboldt Public School promoted reading on Sept. 8 by holding a wrap-up to summer reading. Besides a handful of prizes for their students, every student got to take home a book. As a reader myself, it is very encouraging to see kids reading.

Kaleb Dahlgren played the hero for the Humboldt Broncos as he scored the tying goal and the shootout winner to lead the Broncos to a 4-3 shootout win over the Notre Dame Hounds in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action in Wilcox on Sept. 17.

Valerie Durnin has a long history with the media industry. Now she is joining the team at the Humboldt Journal as the new publisher of the Journal and the East Central Trader.

Drivers bashed into each over for dominance at the Tisdale Motor Speedway's demolition derby. In the end, Nolan Wicks from Nipawin outlasted everyone else and claimed the top prize. Winners First Nolan Wicks Second Marrin Head Third C.
